Business Models - E-Commerce

E-commerce is the activity of buying or selling of products on online services or over the Internet. E-commerce is the purchasing, selling, exchanging goods and services over computer networks (internet) through which transaction or terms of sale are performed Electronically. (Wikipedia)

There are several business models on E-Commerce :

1. Business-to-business (B2B)

B2B e-commerce is simply defined as ecommerce between companies. About 80% of e-commerce is of this type. B2B business models sells its products to an intermediate buyer. As an example, Qualcomm sell their semiconductor products (Qualcomm® Snapdragon™) to smartphone company.

2. Business-to-consumer (B2C)

A website company (e-Commerce) sells its product directly to the consumer. Customer can view and directly order the products that shown on the website. Business-to-consumer e-commerce, or commerce between companies and consumers, involves customers gathering information; purchasing physical goods or receiving products over an electronic network.

3. Consumer-to-consumer (C2C) 

A website following the C2C business model helps consumers to sell their assets like residential property, cars, motorcycles, etc., or rent a room by publishing their information on the website. Website may or may not charge the consumer for its services. Another consumer may opt to buy the product of the first customer by viewing the post/advertisement on the website. Consumer-to-consumer e-commerce or C2C is simply commerce between private individuals or consumers.

 4. Government-to-Business (G2B) 

Government-to-business (G2B) is a business model that refers to government providing services or information to business organization. Government uses B2G model website to approach business organizations. Such websites support auctions, tenders and application submission functionalities.

5. Business-to-Government (B2G) 

B2G model is a variant of B2B model. Such websites are used by governments to trade and exchange information with various business organizations. Such websites are accredited by the government and provide a medium to businesses to submit application forms to the government. 

6. Government-to-Citizen (C2G)

This Model is also a part of e-Governance. The objective of this model is to provide good and effective services to each citizen. The Government provides the following facilities to the citizens through website. Information of all government departments. Different welfare schemes. Different application forms to be used by the citizens. Such websites support auctions of vehicles, machinery, or any other material. Such website also provides services like registration for birth, marriage or death certificates. The main objective of G2C websites is to reduce the average time for fulfilling citizen’s requests for various government services.
